Students Benefit from the Consortium

High school students derive direct benefit from their school’s membership in the PrepWork Consortium, by acquiring opportunities to explore a wide range of occupational and educational placements.

Most significantly, students have the option of receiving free college credit through Tech Prep offerings in their school. Similar to Running Start, Tech Prep has these important advantages:

    Tech Prep

  • Allows a student to earn college credit without leaving your high school, so there are no transportation costs.
  • Doesn’t require you to purchase any expensive college textbooks. Texts already used by your high school are used for Tech Prep classes.
  • Does not charge you for college credit. All credits are free!

To earn credit from Skagit Valley College, students must register for college credit through their Tech Prep teacher, and then simply earn a “B” or better as a final grade. Check with your district Career and Technical Education Director or school counselor for more details.
